Your dentures help you live a normal life – they help you speak, they help you chew, and they brighten your face when you smile. Unfortunately, sometimes your denture or partial denture will need to be repaired due to broken teeth, broken clasps, a tooth on your denture falling out, or other problems. We understand how stressful this can be and are available to help.

toothache-xs-300x300One of the most common problems with dentures is the fit.

Dentures are extremely different than having natural teeth. It takes some time to get used to having them in your mouth. At first, eating and talking can be difficult tasks.

As time passes you will get more and more used to the dentures being in your mouth, and you will learn how to talk and eat with them.

Dentures should be cleaned thoroughly either with warm water or a specialist denture toothpaste. Shake off excess water, dry with a tissue and apply the fixative. Using too much fixative may result in ‘oozing’.

Using smaller amounts may provide better stability. The amount used will vary between dentures and how well they fit in the first place. A good fixative applied in the morning should last all day!!

Partial dentures can sometimes move as gums change shape. Securing the denture to an existing tooth can be the solution. A stud can be fixed to an adjacent tooth. The partial denture then ‘clicks’ onto this stud to secure it in place.

If this sounds like the type of solution that you need please give us a call NOW to book an initial COMPLIMENTARY consultation.

The main way dentures are damaged is by dropping them when they are being removed or inserted.

Dentures can also become weakened and break if they no longer fit the mouth properly, because of gum shrinkage and change of shape.

Subjecting dentures to too much force over a long period of time through teeth grinding, for example, is another cause of damage.

A Dental Technician can usually repair cracked or fractured dentures, insert strengtheners into dentures and remove stains.

They can also repair chips in the artificial teeth or replace ones that have broken off. If your dentures are quite old and have broken several times, it may be necessary to have a new set made.

Dentures that have had teeth added or fractured multiple times are generally not very comfortable to wear as they no longer fit that well.

What you should know about denture repair

Biting down on hard food or dropping your dentures can break or crack them. You might be tempted to try to fix them with an over-the-counter denture repair kit. But you might be doing more harm than good if you go this route. The experienced dental lab technicians at 4D Ceramix have access to special adhesives, acrylics and professional grade teeth that aren’t available to the general public. They can repair broken dentures and even repair chips in the artificial teeth or replace ones that have broken off. If your dentures are quite old and have  broken several times, it may be necessary to have a new set made.

Having the denture repair done professionally also helps to avoid sore spots and chewing problems. Many repairs can be completed the same day, usually within an hour depending on the severity of the repair. Once the repairs are done, we’ll adjust the denture as needed for a comfortable fit.

Should you find yourself in need of a repair, please call 4D Ceramix right away on 01923 227 554 to book in an evaluation, provide details on the needed repair and let us know if you have a spare denture to wear if you need to.
